In 1973, a concept was developed to create an all-Australian-made gift boutique, providing unique gifts and the highest quality service to it’s customers. The shop, situated within the shopping town of Indooroopilly, soon became a gift shop renowned for having the finest collections. The then Premier of Queensland, Joh Bjelke-Perterson, approached the company to source a suitable presentation gift for a visiting dignitary, and the request was delivered with “outstanding customer service”.
The excess of “91” moved to the T&G Arcade as Shop 12 – the first dual concept store for Rosenthal, Georg Jensen and Royal Copenhagen products in the world.
Later, in 1988, The Sheil Collection opened in the T&G Arcade, Brisbane, presenting the more comprehensive range of Don Sheil works. With the evolution of this store, artists from across Australia were incorporated gradually, bringing more exclusive and unique products to the expanding showcase of Australian crafts people. Following the introduction of European design ranges not seen in Brisbane before came the birth of “The Overflow” introducing Alessi, Stelton.
The Sheil Collection has since relocated several times, moving to Tattersall’s Arcade, then to the historic Brisbane Arcade. Now The Sheil Collection has taken a gigantic step of entering the technological world of the internet – which will allow the expansion of the number of brilliant Australian artisans that can be represented.
STYLE AND QUALITY
Leonardo DaVinci said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”. What a brilliant statement. And one too much ignored in this world of abundant choice. Smart design is about stressing the corners of what can be done versus what should be done. Adding more features doesn’t necessarily make something better at what it was designed to do. Good design is also patience.

By shopping at The Sheil Collection you support the Australian design community.
